The Three Horseshoes
The Three HorseshoesWith a history stretching back over 230 years, it's no wonder that The Three Horseshoes is one of the best pubs in Derbyshire. But it's not just the age of the place that makes it special - it's the whole ambience. Since arriving here three years ago, owners Jennie and Ian have completely refurbished the interior, creating a spacious inn that is warm and welcoming, while still retaining many of the original features that make the place so special. Layers have been stripped back to reveal imposing fireplaces, tiled floors and brick walls, while sea grass matting, antique furniture and a mix of collectibles add a dash of warmth.
But it is the food that marks out the Three Horseshoes Inn. So much so that it has been awarded the "Les Routiers Regional Dining Pub of the Year 2006" award - something that is greatly coveted. Whether it be light snacks, lunches or dinner, all the dishes are carefully prepared from fresh local produce, combined with imagination and flair. Game from local shoots, free-range farm eggs and traditional English cheeses - these are the kind of ingredients used in the kitchen. So whether it's scallops with balsamic, or pasta with salmon and dill cream, or main courses like lamb shank with mustard mash, you know you are in for a gastronomic treat. The building was formerly a farriers, and is found in the centre of Breedon-on-the-Hill. Opposite is the village's old "lock up", where village wrongdoers were once incarcerated until they had seen the error of their ways. As the Three Horseshoes gets very busy, we recommend booking in advance. We would be delighted to arrange your booking should you wish.
